HIV infection remains of major public health concern in Europe. The number of newly diagnosed cases of HIV infection reported for 2008 was 51 600, an increase from 48 892 for 2007. Of those, 25 656 were reported by EU and EEA countries. This report presents data on HIV and AIDS for the whole European Region, including the EU and EEA countries. Analyses are provided for the EU and EEA region, and also by geographical area of the WHO European Region.
